The Associate Research Director (ARD) is responsible for administering the conduct of scientific research related to the CSU Land-Grant Program. The ARD will help lead the development of long-term strategies to enhance the Land-Grant research programs. The ARD will manage the human and physical assets of the ARDP to ensure optimum outcomes. The ARD will direct research initiatives in collaboration with state-wide research and extension efforts. The ARD is an integral member of the Land Grant leadership team and reports to the Dean of the College of Engineering, Science, Technology, and Agriculture (CESTA) and the 1890 Land-Grant Director. The position oversees the day-to-day research program supported which includes USDA Evans Allen Research, McIntire-Stennis, and other programs. Assists in program evaluation and reporting to the US Department of Agriculture, other funding sources and the university. The ARD also assists in the compliance of all Land Grant Program Research Programs including compliance with USDA rules and regulations. Reviews all ARDP proposals and scientific manuscripts before submission. Promotes and represents the Land Grant research projects and programs on a state, regional, and national basis.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide leadership for research program direction and priority needs for the Agriculture and Research Development Program (ARDP).
Assist in managing the 1890 Research Program resources.
Assists in the selection, development, and review of the ARDP proposals, budgeting, and publications.
Assists in the hiring, placement, and evaluation of research faculty and staff.
Assist in developing CSU’s Plan of Work
Develop plans in collaboration with Associate Extension Administrator in accordance with the focus areas of state and national concerns and direct the implementations of the plans.
Coordinates the preparation and submission of the technical reports for ARDP research projects to the National Institute for Food Agriculture (NIFA) and other funding agencies.
Engage with other university research communities by forming relationships that strengthen the CSU 1890 Land Grant programming.
Participate in professional meetings of Agriculture Experiment Station Directors and other related meetings.
Work with CSU administrators and faculty; state and local leaders in agriculture, food, nutrition and health, life sciences, agricultural business and natural resources; industry, private organizations, and government agencies; and other institutions of higher education.
Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
