69-23 Extension County Specialist 4-H Youth Development, Chaffee & Lake Counties

OEE invites applications and nominations for an Extension County Specialist, 4-H Youth Development. This is a full-time, twelve (12) month, non-tenure track Extension faculty position. Faculty rank is dependent upon the candidate’s academic credentials and professional experience and is subject to review by the Extension Promotion Committee. The faculty appointment, evaluation, and promotion standards are centered around the three core duties of extension faculty – educate, create, and connect. Candidates are sought with interests that complement and expand upon current initiatives and education activities in OEE and CSU Extension. Provide leadership and organization in the development, implementation, evaluation, and reporting of educational programs in small acreage management, agriculture, and horticulture, focusing on Chaffee County but assisting other counties as appropriate. CSU Extension Specialists throughout the state work as a team and share expertise.

Colorado State University Extension and Chaffee County are seeking a youth development professional with a proven track record of effective communication, volunteer management, building program capacity, creating innovative programming, and fostering positive working relationships with both internal and external partners as well as others in the youth development community. The Extension County Specialist develops, promotes, delivers, and evaluates non-credit youth development programming within the Chaffee County 4-H Program. The individual in this position is a member of the local county Extension team and a local representative of Colorado State University and Chaffee County. The Specialist works as a member of the local Extension 4-H team to provide inclusive and experientially rich programs in response to community needs in Chaffee County. The Specialist is expected to employ broad outreach efforts to engage with and meet the needs of the county’s unique and varied communities.

As a member of the Chaffee County 4-H team, this individual has specific responsibilities for the club-based community program. Additionally, this individual is to engage Chaffee and Lake County youth through additional 4-H delivery modes incorporating STEM and workforce skills into their 4-H programming. The Specialist oversees advisory committees that provide leadership, guidance, direction, and educational program support to the 4-H youth and volunteers in these project areas. This position also typically takes the lead organizing our county delegation for statewide camps and conferences including (chaperoning/arranging chaperons). They collaborate and partner with 4-H staff and the county director for overall leadership and direction of the 4-H club program which includes screening, training and managing volunteers.

This individual in partnership and collaboration with the other 4-H Team members shares responsibility for supporting the overall 4-H club program, they will have primary responsibility for 4-H School Enrichment Programs, After/Out of School Programs, and Special Interest/Short-Term Community Programs. The specialist may also contribute to programming for adult and community audiences in areas of expertise. Assignments may be reallocated and/or shared in the future based on interest and expertise. Flexibility in scheduling; night, weekend, and overnight work (able to be scheduled in advance) is required. The Specialist is a local representative of Colorado State University Extension and works under the supervision of the Extension Director for Chaffee County. In addition, this individual will work regularly with other Extension Specialists across program and county lines, actively participate on state 4-H work teams and committees and work collaboratively with other local youth serving organizations. The position also receives guidance, training, and support from the State 4-H Office.

The primary office location for this position is in Salida, Colorado. While this position has the opportunity to utilize professional scheduling, the individual in this position is expected to maintain a balance establishing a presence in the primary office, to effectively carry out the duties of the position. The work schedule will vary, evening/night and weekend work will be necessary.

Requirements:

· Completed bachelor’s degree. Conferred degree must be in education, family and consumer sciences, youth development, leadership, social sciences, natural resources, science, youth development, non-profit management, or a closely related field that can significantly contribute to administrative and/or program responsibilities. (Please note, a successful candidate without a completed master’s degree will be required to complete a master’s degree within five years from the start of employment to advance through the faculty ranks. Failure to do so will result in termination unless a compelling reason is accepted by the Vice President of Engagement and Extension).

· 2+ years professional experience relevant to the Essential Job Duties (below) of this position.

· Course work and/or professional experience must provide a broad and significant understanding of youth development, education, and STEM and/or family and consumer sciences, agriculture, natural resources.

· Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
