Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
To provide administrative support to the multi-level administrator: Dean, AGNR; Director of the
Agricultural Experiment Station (AES); and Director of University of Maryland Extension (UME), as
well as to the Assistant to the Dean. The Dean/Director oversees a budget of $54.1M (state and federal
funds) and approximately 742 FTEs. The position requires extensive skills and knowledge for working
with the three diverse components of the college: Instruction, Research and Extension and the many
internal and external constituents by serving as one of the resource persons for the unit, representatives
of the Dean/Director, and as a liaison between the Dean/Director and his senior and junior staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to management of daily operations,
coordination of hiring searches, administrative reviews, and departmental reviews, coordination of
college functions, travel management, overseeing the college’s Outside Professional Activities
reporting process and manage corporate procurement visa and travel card account for office and Dean.
In addition, manages the Dean’s office website. Schedules and handles the Dean’s calendar jointly with
Assistant to the Dean.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Administration, Management or other related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of academic, administrative, and operating policies of the University and unit;
administrative/managerial procedures; advanced knowledge of office duties. Ability to independently
organize, prioritize, delegate, and handle complex administrative and clerical duties. Broad
administrative skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills; basic research methodology;
proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Gmail; application of principles
of office management and supervision; strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as
writing skills for composing and editing routine and complex correspondence/reports. A demonstrated
ability to navigate sensitive issues with discretion and professionalism; work with a diverse audience,
ability to prioritize many and constantly changing assignments, and organize time and work for
optimum efficiency.
