The Office for Equity and Diversity (OED) is responsible for the University of Minnesota’s systemwide equity and diversity initiatives and programs, leveraging the transformative power of equity and diversity to advance excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement at the University.
OED’s Director of Operations and Strategic Partnerships is a newly established position that combines several critical leadership responsibilities. An essential member of the Vice President’s senior team, the Director of Operations and Strategic Partnerships will lead OED’s daily operations, providing support and counsel to the Vice President, OED System and Leadership Teams, and all eight OED units as well as Central OED initiatives. The Director serves a critical role in advancing the mission, vision, and values that guide the work of OED and inform the larger systemic efforts of the University through strong partnerships with the President’s Office, Provost’s Office, Colleges, academic departments, administrative units, and governance bodies.
To fulfill these responsibilities successfully, the Director must possess a thorough understanding of and commitment to contemporary diversity, equity and inclusion work and social justice, experience in and understanding of employment law/practices and human resource policy, and strong financial and budgeting expertise. The position requires a high degree of independent judgment, strong organizational skills, and both attention to detail and the ability to see the forest as well as the trees. The successful candidate must be highly knowledgeable about DEI best practices in higher education and experience working with marginalized populations and communities.
