Director, Population Research Center

Background and Position Summary
The Population Research Center (PRC) is an interdisciplinary public service, research, and training unit for population‐related data and research for the State of Oregon. The mission of PRC is to provide population data, information, research, and analysis for Oregon and its communities. Center staff engage in a variety of demographic activities, including the Oregon State Data Center, the Oregon Population Estimates Program, and a variety of commissioned population projects. PRC faculty and staff also may teach in the Nohad A. Toulan School of Urban Studies and Planning, supporting a graduate concentration in applied demography. As Director of PRC, this position leads the research and outreach activities of the Center, including budgeting, supervision, and strategic planning.

This will be a variable full‐time equivalent (FTE) appointment starting at .75 FTE with the possibility of increase to 1.0 FTE, dependent on grant funding and/or possible teaching positions. This position is excluded from representation due to assigned management and supervisory responsibilities. The anticipated start date for this position is 7/1/20, but an earlier start date is negotiable.

The starting annual salary rate for this position will be between $76,392 and $89,616 at 1.0 FTE (between $57,294 and $67,212 at .75 FTE), plus an administrative stipend of $12,000 per year. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR. Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in applied demography, social geography, sociology, economics, or related field.
  • Two or more years progressively responsible experience managing a research team and research projects.
  • Evidence of knowledge of demographic analysis and forecasting methods.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Successful completion of a background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in applied demography, social geography, sociology, economics, or related field.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience managing a research team.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Successful record of attracting funding.
  • Experience and ability to teach in the applied demography certificate.
