Required Minimum Quals:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience
Master’s degree in relevant field or Juris Doctorate.
Additional years of experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion work.
Bilingual preferred; at a minimum, the ability to understand and to make one’s self understood to all Spanish speaking individuals.
Experience developing, implementing and managing programs with a DEI focus.
Demonstrated success in developing an organizational culture that is increasingly open and inclusive.
Demonstrated knowledge of trends, issues, current research and effective practices in broadening participation, to develop an organizational culture that is increasingly open and inclusive.

The Office of the Vice President for Extension and Outreach at Iowa State University (ISUEO) is seeking qualified candidates for a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Specialist. This position will provide leadership and oversight of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives and programs for participants, staff, and community partners, projecting ISU Extension and Outreach's commitment toward achieving its strategic objective of fostering an inclusive culture for our community through effective programming, engagement and accountability. The position will assess and evaluate ISU Extension and Outreach DEI programs and make recommendations to leadership on how to broaden participation and strengthen diversity, equity and inclusion. The incumbent will represent ISU Extension and Outreach in all matters related to DEI within the university.
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Specialist will stay up to date on state and federal laws regarding civil rights and DEI and provide Civil Rights training, reporting, plan review, and compliance for ISU Extension and Outreach. The successful candidate will maintain up-to-date knowledge of state and federal Legislation and laws related to DEI that would impact program areas of ISU Extension and Outreach, translating diversity legislation and laws into practice to ensure ISU Extension and Outreach meets statutory requirements. This position will work with ISU Extension and Outreach Professional Development to design, create, prepare, and deliver curriculum, presentations, workshops, and online resources for staff, stakeholders, and partner organizations. Serving as a liaison and leader for the ISU Extension and Outreach Diversity and Inclusion Committee, the incumbent will lead the effort to recruit and support a diverse community by strengthening connections with Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-Serving Institutions and Tribal Colleges.
The successful candidate will have the ability to lead and manage teams at all levels of the organization from leadership, staff and constituents within Extension and Outreach and across the university and the state of Iowa. Additionally, the candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of the broad range of diversity issues; excellent oral and written communication skills; and excellent public speaking skills.

• Leads or coordinates project planning, resourcing, and staffing for assigned program.
• Monitors and manages budget and ensures that the program meets the overall objectives of the university.
• Develops public relations initiatives, workshops, seminars, surveys, or other activities to promote the program and carry out its objectives.
• Acts as a representative of the program.
• Participates in project management.
• May secure external funding as needed.
