About This Role:

The Department of Grain Science and Industry at Kansas State University seeks a postdoc researcher to implement research in lignin/cellulose preparation from lignocellulosic biomass, nano-lignin/-cellulose synthesis/characterization, additive manufacturing (i.e., 3D printing) for aerogel fabrication/characterization.

The candidate will conduct a project on the development of nano-lignin-based triboelectric nanogenerator (TENGs) for mechanical energy harvesting and sensors for biomedical applications. Overall research responsibilities include lignin preparation, nano-lignin synthesis/characterization, and additive manufacturing for nano-lignin aerogel production/characterization.

The requirements of this position include:

• Strong background on lignocellulosic biomass fractionation and characterization and nano-lignin synthesis and characterization

• Research experience in additive manufacturing

• Proficiency in both written and oral communication of scientific results

• Ability to publish peer-reviewed papers and write grant proposals

• Ability to work effectively in a large, multidisciplinary team

• Lab management and equipment maintenance

• Mentoring graduate and undergraduate students

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

• PhD degree in biosystems engineering, bioprocessing, additive manufacturing, chemical engineering, polymer chemistry, or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experienced in lignocellulosic biomass handling, lignin/cellulose preparation/characterization, nano-lignin/-cellulose synthesis/characterization

• Experienced in additive manufacturing

• Experienced in various instruments, GC, GC-MS, HPLC, NMR, and LC-MS

• Experienced in paper and grant writing

Other Requirements:

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
