Grant Accounting Analyst

South Dakota State University’s (SDSU) office of Grants and Contracts Administration (GCA) is offering an exciting career opportunity as a Grant Accounting Analyst. We are looking to fill two positions and are looking for creative and innovative professionals to join us in the post award financial management of the university’s external grants and contracts. These positions are 12-month, 100%-time, benefit-eligible positions. These positions are supervised by the Director of Grants and Contracts Administration.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide post award financial management for grants and contracts and other sponsored projects funding to include interpreting and applying federal regulations and University policies;
  • Monitor funds for invoicing, reconciliations, and financial reporting;
  • Run department reports;
  • Update and maintain databases;
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve department processes;
  • Manage the Time and Effort system and provide training and assistance for employees as needed.

Position 2:

  • Provide post award financial management for grants and contracts and other sponsored projects funding to include interpreting and applying federal regulations and University policies;
  • Monitor funds for invoicing, reconciliations, and financial reporting;
  • Provide risk analysis of Single Audits and make recommendation regarding the issuance of subawards;
  • Develop subawards, apply analytical evaluation techniques in the identification of a resolution to grants administration issues, and provide knowledge of regulations, agency policies, precedent cases and other requirements that affect grant and contract administration;
  • Set up new agreements in the financial system and process amendments to existing agreements. This includes reading and interpreting agreement to determine appropriate financial attributes. If inconsistencies in agreements, assist with corrections.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field completed by first day of employment;
  • Ability to research, interpret, and apply regulations, policies, and procedures regarding grants and contract funding the University receives from Federal and non-federal sponsors;
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing clearly and effectively, presenting ideas, documenting activities, reading and interpreting written information, such as federal, state, and internal guidelines and requirements;
  • Detail-oriented and possess a strong work ethic and determination;
  • Ability to learn new skills and quickly absorb new information;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of reliability, accuracy, and consistency; meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with varying degrees of pressure;
  • Working knowledge of standard accounting procedures and ability to utilize computerized accounting systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience with Excel and Access;
  • Demonstrated success with process improvements.
