South Dakota State University Aviation Education is offering an exciting career opportunity as an Academic Instructor. We are looking for a creative and innovative professional to join the program beginning August, 2020. This is a nine-month, full-time, benefit-eligible position. This position is supervised by the Consumer Sciences Department Head in the College of Education and Human Sciences. Sponsorship is not available for this position. Must be eligible to work in the United States.

TEACHING: The Academic Instructor of Aviation will hold a standard teaching load with assignments through the various levels and types of courses offered in the program. The Academic Instructor will teach flight-related courses, as well as perform some Flight Instructor duties authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration Regulations in accordance with program needs and in accordance with approved Training Course Outlines.
SERVICE: The Academic Instructor of Aviation will serve on committees at the college, department, and program levels and will provide service to the profession, the industry, and the region. As a mid-sized aviation program, the person in this position will work closely with other aviation faculty to develop curriculum and guide the scope of the program. This position allows a qualified candidate to explore many aspects of an accredited collegiate aviation program including engaging in curriculum development, assessment and accreditation efforts, and student recruitment and retention, as well as other duties as required.
· Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences;
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
· Current FAA Flight Instructor Certificate with Airplane Singe-Engine, Instrument-Airplane, and Airplane Multi-Engine ratings;
· Two years flight instruction experience;
· Current FAA medical with at least second-class privileges.

The Department of Consumer Sciences is one of the four departments in the College of Education and Human Sciences, with undergraduate major programs in Aviation Education, Hospitality Management, Apparel Merchandising, Consumer Affairs, Leadership and Management of Nonprofit Organizations (LMNO), and Master’s programs in Financial Planning and Merchandising.
The Aviation program at SDSU is an integral part of the Department of Consumer Sciences in the College of Education and Human Sciences. The ABBI-accredited program consists of 80-90 undergraduate students, and three full-time faculty members and has an intimate faculty-to-student ratio that attracts strong, bright, and engaged students. Over the past few years, the program has built a positive reputation across the region for professionally-focused aviation students.
