Assistant, Associate Or Full Professor And Director

Position Function:

This director level position invites candidates who are innovative, transformational, and collaborative. Mississippi State University Libraries is engaged in an exciting strategic overhaul where we are rethinking and revisioning what it means to be a new millennium academic library. This is a tenure-track position that provides essential operations management for Mississippi State University Libraries Collections Management & Strategy Division and the position reports directly to the Associate Dean. The Libraries are especially interested in a leader who has a passion for operations, analytics, creativity, and the paradigm shift going on in electronic resources from traditional cataloging to metadata, digitization and enabling open access, discovery and acquisitions. The position provides managerial efficiencies and a data driven and analytical approach for library collections and services including managing approximately seven tenure-track library faculty and ten library staff. The successful candidate will support the Associate Dean in day-to-day operations management of the division with a focus on workflow and analytical efficiencies including resource evaluation and an eye towards making digital resources accessible and discoverable with a focus on innovation and new creative research possibilities.

The Mississippi State University Library system is comprised of six libraries that include the Mitchell Memorial Library, Bob and Kathy Luke Architecture, Art and Design Library, College of Veterinary Medicine Library, Phil Hardin Foundation Libraries on the Meridian Campus, and Gertrude C. Ford Foundation Library in Jackson, MS. The Mitchell Memorial Library houses the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library and the Frank and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides leadership, strategic direction, and support for the development, assessment, and
continuous improvement of the Libraries’ collections that are user-centered and
accessible.
• Directs all units and personnel in Collections Management & Strategy (7 faculty and 10 staff).
• Designs, implements, and evaluates innovative programs and services using evidence-based methods.
• Promotes organizational effectiveness through strategic leadership, policy development, planning, and resource management.
• Provides budget analysis, budget forecasting and strategic budget planning.
• Advances diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the collection and in user-centered services.
• Cultivates relationships with academic leadership, engages in campus-level initiatives, and builds partnerships with University and external communities.
• Participates in and provides opportunities for employees in professional development for the purpose of continuing education and contributing to the profession.
• Monitors library higher education and technology trends to guide innovation.

Minimum Qualifications:

• ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS or international equivalent or other relevant advanced degree
• Knowledge of current trends in the management of information resources
• Knowledge of the information resource’s lifecycle, including e-resource negotiation, strong analytical and organizational skills and effective interpersonal communication skills
(both oral and written)
• Ability to set and adjust priorities and workflows in a dynamic and changing environment
• Ability to carry out scholarly research and service necessary to meet library and university requirements for promotion and tenure

Preferred Qualifications:

• Additional graduate degree or certificates. MBA, Accounting, Data Sciences or Law Degree,
Licensing or Negotiation or technology/quantitative analytic degree
• Experience reviewing and negotiating license agreements or contracts
