OSU Extension Educator, 4-H Youth Development
Salary: $38,004 - $63,036

Provides overall guidance and leadership for 4-H Youth Development programming targeted to meet local and area needs. Implement and support a comprehensive volunteer system through identification, selection, orientation, training, utilization, recognition, and evaluation of adult and youth volunteers to support local 4-H programming. Use appropriate methods, both formal and informal, of community assessment to identify educational needs and opportunities of local community. Communicate effectively with demographics of county. Design, implement and teach educational programming, based on these needs, to groups and individuals comprised of adults and/or youth. Work with and/or lead committees and volunteers, and establish and maintain partnerships within the community that support the achievement of program goals. May also convene and facilitate community coalitions focused on those needs. Design and implement a high-quality, annual overnight residential 4-H camp. Work with the county junior and senior fair boards in supporting the county fair. Replicate and adhere to existing local, statewide, and national 4-H youth development programming. Develop promotional and other educational material. Evaluate educational programs and dissemination methods, including use of existing instruments to evaluate teaching effectiveness, program quality, and results of local programs. Participate in discussions with county representatives concerning program funding. Seek and secure external funds to support local programming. May be responsible for the management of the county budget. Participate as a member of county, multi-county, and/or state Extension teams to further the overall mission, vision and values of both Ohio State University Extension and 4-H Youth Development.

This position is located in Medina County, Ohio.

  • Design, implementation and teaching of community-based programs that respond to local needs. Designs new learning resources. Provide overall leadership for assigned program area within the county.
  • Conducts community assessment to identify educational needs and opportunities of local community. Provides educational programs based on identified local needs. Performs county related duties and responsibilities.
  • Participates in community collaborations focused on local needs and issues. Establishes and maintains partnerships within the community that support achievement of program goals. Leads committees and volunteers. Communicates with clientele, peers, and support teams.
  • Participates in community functions to promote programs and provide public relations to county. Uses news media, develops promotion materials.
  • Evaluates education programs and dissemination methods. Utilize existing evaluation instruments to evaluate teaching effectiveness, program quality, and results.
  • Holds leadership roles in county and multi-county Extension teams.
  • Engages in professional development activities that lead to development of a specialty. Participates in appropriate in-services.

QUALIFICATIONS:  An earned Bachelor's or Master’s degree at the time of hire is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in Youth Development or other educationally related area (examples are: Communications, Family Relations and Human Development, Recreation, Sociology, Psychology, Education including Agriculture, Extension, Elementary, Secondary, Family and Consumer Sciences and Physical).  Must be able to utilize a variety of teaching methods to deliver program content to diverse groups of learners. Knowledge and/or the ability to learn concepts, processes, ideas, and methods of 4-H Youth Development.  Experience effectively assessing, designing, developing, and teaching educational programs to diverse audiences. Experience in building and maintaining relationships with various group of individuals, including peers, support staff, volunteers, and local committees, in an effort to achieve common programing goals. Experience in leading programs including the leadership of support staff and volunteers. Experience in organizing, implementing, and evaluating programs. Basic computer skills required. DESIRED EXPERIENCE: Prior experience with budget management. Candidates must be willing to work flexible hours with a minimum of supervision.
