Purpose of Job

The Post-Doctoral Research Associate will manage, coordinate, conduct and implement research activities of the Evans Allen Project,” Connections that Count: Multidisciplinary Approach to Childhood Obesity” in accordance with the policies and protocols of the funding agency and Alcorn State University. The Post-Doctoral Research Associate will perform duties to maintain productive research and project implementation.

Scope of Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Post-Doctoral Research Associate will assume responsibilities to design, organize, conduct research, design protocols and publish results in research journals. He/she will also coordinate research meetings and provide supervision for undergraduate research students in the department of Human Sciences

Essential Job Functions

•Support the Principal Investigator and the research team in the design, implementation of research and research procedures.
•Collect, prepare and analyze research data and maintain electronic database of research data, tabulate and display data for presentation in research conferences and for manuscript preparation,
•Supervise undergraduate research students to coordinate research efforts
•Conduct literature review
•Assist with ordering and procurement of supplies and equipment needed for research
•Support the development of proposals for research funding
•Manage the day-to-day activities of the project and coordinate research meetings
•Assist with preparation of project reports and project budget.

•Carry out administrative and management work associated with the research plan.
•Other related duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator


•An earned doctorate degree in Human Sciences, Child Development, Nutrition and Health or closely related field from an accredited university.
•A minimum of two years of experience in grant writing and management
•A minimum of two years of experience in research publication and dissemination

•A minimum of two years of experience in Laboratory and community-based research studies
•Experience in securing federal grants as a Principal Investigator.

Licensing and Certifications

Relevant licenses and certifications are a plus

•Demonstrated understanding of operational requirements for a successful research project and managing resources.
•Knowledge and application of successful grant implementation
•Proven ability to identify and fulfill academic writing requirements for target publications
•Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
•Ability to work independently
•Ability to prioritize assignments
•Ability to complete assignments within designated timeframes
•Ability to generate new ideas to generate unique concepts and solutions.
•Demonstrated understanding of the value of academic and commercial information e.g. Non-disclosure agreements
•Familiarity with the use of at least one Statistical Packages such as SPSS, SAS, R programming etc.
•Knowledge of copyright processes and protection of human subject information
•High personal motivation, self-management, and detail oriented
