About This Role:

The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (KSVDL) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Research Technician. This position exists to assist with diagnostic speciments and to utilize selective media preparations to enhance the isolation and identification of pathogenic bacteria and to conduct antibacterial sensitivity testing. This employee will assist the laboratory supervisor and other collect faculty in ongoing research projects by isolating and selecting pure colonies of bacteria for identification and pathogenicity studies and refer to reference laboratories where appropriate. The person in this position will assist with analyzing this information and translates it into a report for our clients.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma

Preferred Qualifications:

• One or more years of experience with diagnostic microbiology

• Experience in veterinary diagnostic setting preferred

• Ability to establish and maintain records

• Ability to work well with people

• Ability to work weekends and additional hours as necessary

• Ability to know the differences in pathogenic vs. non-pathogenic bacterial growth

• Decision-making skills

• Computer skills and ability to use a database software package

• Knowledge of handling pathogens

• Organization and communication skills
