Senior Research Assistant (Agricultural Research Office)

Job Description (Scope of Work): The Agricultural Research Office Senior Research Assistant serves as a staff member under the Assistant Dean of Research in the School of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences (SAFHS). Wherein, this person will serve under the immediate supervision of the Assistant Dean of Research (SAFHS).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance to the Assistant Dean of Research (ADR) with whatever is necessary to administer and promote the programs in the School of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences (SAFHS), and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Filter and prioritize client visits or phone calls, manage the schedule of the Assistant Dean of Research and communicate on the ADR's behalf. Other responsibilities include:
  • Assist individuals with available requested information relative to the SAFHS and/or University when requested.
  • Assist in evaluations of the Agricultural Research Office reviews pertaining to grantsmanship Assist the Assistant Dean of Research to identify opportunities to improve research policies, procedures and protocols
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing operational reports, and effectively guiding Evans- Allen Researchers
  • Ability to act as gatekeeper and escalate relevant information to the Assistant Dean of Research Answering incoming phone calls in a polite and professional manner and accurately taking messages
  • Coordinate travel arrangements (both domestic and international) and create trip itineraries Exceptional attention to detail, ability to multitask, and take accurate meeting minutes Maintain comprehensive and accurate records, documents and reports pertaining to Evans• Allen Research, Capacity Building Grants funding, and other research opportunities.
  • Organize meetings, including scheduling, sending reminders and organizing catering when necessary
  • Use various software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software to assist in preparing reports and/or special projects
  • Provide administrative assistance, such as writing and editing emails, drafting memos and preparing communications on behalf of the Assistant Dean of Research
  • Welcome visitors to the Agricultural Research Office and identify the purpose of their visit before directing them to the appropriate personnel
  • Manage the Assistant Dean of Research day-to-day calendar, including making appointments and prioritizing the most sensitive matters
  • Must be knowledgeable and know how to work the existing operating system (Ellucian Colleague) at UAPB

Qualifications: An associate degree is required, although a B.S. degree is preferred in business-related or SAFHS field (or equivalent experience) with three to five years of experience in general office work, including two years in collecting and compiling administrative and/or statistical data. Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements upon approval of the Search Committee. Additionally, certifications, such as the IAAP Certified Administrative Professional (CAP), or completed coursework on administrative and HR software is also recommended.
