Clinical Assistant Professor

Our research priorities are improvement of health outcomes, promoting health for rural and underserved populations, and transforming nursing and interprofessional health education. The College of Nursing is especially interested in candidates who have significant potential for building an extra-murally funded program of research. This is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure track position. The position would serve as 100% faculty for the College of Nursing. This position is supervised by the APRN Program Director and will be based at any of our College of Nursing sites (Aberdeen, Brookings, Sioux Falls, or Rapid City).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Faculty members plan, implement, and evaluate assigned courses either as an individual assignment or as a member of a teaching team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold a DNP or PhD degree completed by date of application or be willing to obtain a doctoral degree within 5 years.
  • Licensed by the South Dakota Board of Nursing or eligible for licensure as an APRN as evidenced by current licensure in another state.
    • Both Registered Nurse and PMHNP licensure in South Dakota is required to provide direct patient care. Both licenses must be renewed every 2 years. Applicant is responsible for licensure fees.
  • Nationally Certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
    • Certification requires the Nurse Practitioner to take a board-certified examination and must be renewed every 5 years. The renewal process involves the completion of 75 continuing education (CE) hours. Of those, 25 hours must be in the area of pharmacology. Applicant is responsible for renewal fees.
  • Must obtain own professional medical liability insurance plan with a minimum of $1,000,000 per incident and $3,000,000 aggregate; applicant is responsible for this annual fee.
  • Minimum of two years as practicing Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work as a contributing team member.
  • Ability to use and incorporate technology in managing and/or delivering educational programs.
  • Ability or potential to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational materials and direct effective programs.
  • Valid driver’s license, or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire, and willingness to travel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Evidence of professional service.
  • Nationally Certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
  • Nationally certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
  • Formal teaching experience in nursing.
  • Evidence of potential for scholarly activity.
  • Experience in publishing extension materials and peer reviewed journals.
  • Preferred experience in mental/behavioral health.
