The South Dakota State University (SDSU) School of Design invites applications for an Instructor Graphic Design, to begin no later than August 2024. The position is full time, nine-month, benefit eligible appointment and reports to the Director of the School of Design. We particularly seek candidates with strong foundational knowledge of graphic design and expertise in at least one of the disciplinary content areas. The position is typically 90% teaching and 10% service. The School of Design includes accredited degrees in the visual arts: graphic design, and studio arts and the built environment: architecture, interior design and landscape architecture. Collectively, School faculty form a collaborative teaching and research environment that values cross-program and interdisciplinary initiatives. The successful candidate will contribute to building national and international stature and recognition for the discipline, School and University.
SDSU offers a 4-year NASAD accredited Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design degree. The major in Graphic Design prepares students for entry-level design positions. Professional graphic designers plan and execute designs for visual communication according to the needs of audiences and clients in the context for which they are intended. DISCIPLINARY CONTENT AREAS:
Expertise in at least one of the following areas: 1) typography and editorial design, 2) digital product design, i.e.: app and web development, 3) time-based media design, i.e.: animation, film, motion graphics, 4) spatial design in the built environment, 5) socially aware and responsible design practices, 6) design theory and history, 7) identity and branding.
