Assistant Professor in Counseling

The School of Education, Counseling, and Human Development (ECHD) is seeking candidates for an Assistant Professor position at our main campus in Brookings, South Dakota with a start date of August 2023. This is full-time, benefit-eligible, nine-month tenure-track position. Primary responsibilities include teaching, research, advising/mentorship of graduate students, and service. This position requires in-person teaching in Brookings, South Dakota.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach graduate courses in a CACREP-approved master’s level program including clinical courses such as Practicum and/or Internship.
  • Engage in scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research.
  • Continued preparation and study of the field.
  • Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance.
  • Engage in service to the university and community
  • Commitment to serving a heterogeneous student body by delivering a student-centered education and using approaches that support equitable outcomes for all students.
  • Support college and school initiatives.
  • Provide service within the university and to the community.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned doctorate from a CACREP-accredited Counselor Education program by August 2023 or an equivalent doctorate plus one year full-time in a CACREP accredited counseling program prior to the 2012-2013 school year;
  • Eligibility for licensure and/or certification in the state of South Dakota.
  • Knowledge of CACREP standards.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to teach in university settings (on-campus and online).
  • Potential for scholarly activity, publication, and success in obtaining external funding to support research activity.
  • Clinical supervision skills at the graduate level.
  • Actively identify with the counseling profession through sustained memberships in counseling organizations; the maintenance of certifications and/or licenses pertinent to the counseling specialty area(s); and, sustained professional development and renewal activities related to counseling, professional service and advocacy in counseling, and research and scholarly activity in counseling.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with online course development and integration of innovative technology to enhance curriculum.
  • Experience/expertise in a specific area of interest (i.e. marriage and family therapy, student affairs, first generation college students, etc.).
  • Experience and/or training in Play Therapy.
  • Experience working within rural and frontier communities.
  • Commitment to principles of affirmative action, equal opportunity and working with avariety of audiences.

SALARY:
