About This Role:

Title: State Specialist Community Vitality

Location: Manhattan, KS

Extension Programs within K-State Research and Extension seeks a dynamic and innovative professional to join the Community Vitality programming team. This individual will provide statewide leadership for Community Vitality programming with emphasis on engagement, facilitation and building community capital. This position reports to the Associate Director of Extension Programs. This position has the ability for a hybrid /remote work arrangement.

• Provide visionary leadership within Community Vitality programming.

• Develop community vitality educational curriculum and evaluation tools for outcome-based programming.

• Provide community facilitation leadership and training opportunities with emphasis on community engagement for local K-State Research and Extension staff, volunteers, and communities.

• Provide evaluation leadership of community vitality programming with local units on program effectiveness; program evaluation; leadership development; new agent consultation and orientation; developing collaborations including resource development; supporting local unit personnel in creating and carrying out personal professional development plans.

• Provide support to Extension Agents, Extension Councils, and community leaders in analyzing situations, identifying needs, obtaining extramural funding and in developing educational programs for community vitality. Assist extension agents in developing local unit, region-wide and/or multi-unit programs. Work with local unit extension leaders and staff to expand and enhance program accessibility.

• Provide liaison between the local unit, regional, and state FCS staff of K-State Research and Extension to promote effective and efficient communication and teamwork.

• Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with other state or regional organizations and groups to help further the K-State Research and Extension mission.

• Provide leadership for and involvement in a Program Focus Team (PFT) related to area of program expertise.

• Assist Extension Agents in developing digital, area-wide and/or multi-unit programs.

• Establish and/or maintain collaborate relationships with other area organizations, and groups to help further the K-State Research and Extension mission.

• Provide service on various committees for the unit, K-State Research and Extension, and K-State.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

• A master's degree in a family and consumer Sciences, sociology, community planning, leadership studies, communication, or closely related field.

• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals, groups, and through mass media/social media.

• Interest in working with people as individuals, groups, and co-workers to accomplish individual and/or group goals as evidenced by college and community activities, as well as past work experiences.

• Demonstrated ability in designing, promoting, implementing and evaluation educational programs.

• Ability to utilize electronic communication and computer applications within the framework of Extension program development, delivery and management.

• Familiarity with various ethnic and socio-economic audiences and commitment to working with adults and youth from diverse backgrounds.

• Demonstrated ability in training professionals.

• Demonstrated success in forming partnerships with organizations and agencies external to the University and Cooperative Extension Service.

• Actively participate in personal/professional development growth opportunities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional experience with Cooperative Extension.

• Education, training and interest in community engagement, facilitation and community capitals.

• PhD with subject matter in community facilitation or closely related field.

• Demonstrated success in extramural grant writing.
