Salary Range: $38,004-$48,000
Extension Educator 2
Requires a master’s Degree
Salary Range: $43,500-$53,508
Extension Educator 3
Requires a master’s Degree and 11+ years of direct or related work experience
Salary Range: $51,000-$63,036

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The Ohio State University Extension (OSUE) seeks an Educator to work collaboratively with county, center, region, and state teams of OSUE professionals and with local agency leaders and volunteers. The Educator will be responsible for a broad range of basic to complex duties that could include but are not limited to: Providing guidance and/or leadership for Family and Consumer Sciences programming targeted to local and regional needs including: health, food and nutrition; consumer sciences including financial education; human and family development and relationships; and addictive issues and behaviors. Utilize appropriate methods, both formal and informal, of community assessment to identify educational needs and opportunities of local community. Teach educational programming, based on these needs, to groups and individuals comprised of adults and/or youth. May also convene and facilitate community coalitions focused on those needs. The Educator may be required to replicate and adhere to existing programs that meet the needs of their local community. The Educator will develop promotional material, work with and/or lead committees and volunteers, and establish and maintain partnerships within the community that support the achievement of the program goals. The Educator evaluates educational programs and dissemination methods, as well as, utilizes existing evaluation instruments to evaluate the teaching effectiveness, program quality and results of local programs. Participate in discussions with county representatives concerning program funding and may be responsible for the management of the county budget. May also be responsible for securing external funds to support local programming. Participate as a member of county, multi-county, and/or state Extension teams to further the overall mission, vision and values of both Ohio State University Extension and Family and Consumer Sciences.
This position is located in Muskingum County, Ohio.
- Give leadership to proactive program development in the broad areas of Family and Consumer Sciences topics health, food and nutrition, consumer sciences (individual and family household financial literacy and education), human development and family relationships. Utilize formal and informal needs assessment techniques and secondary data to identify and prioritize needs and measure impact of programs. Utilize a variety of education program delivery methods and teaching techniques. Ensure a diversity among potential clientele and learners and equal access to programs and facilities without regard to age, race, creed, color, handicap, sex, sexual orientation, developmental disability, national origin, marital status, arrest or non-program related conviction record. - ED 1 Develop and/or expand competency in the areas of teaching, program development, and resource identification. Identify research and/or evidence informed curricula and resources to meet local needs; utilize evidence based educational and engagement strategies with fidelity; develop creative works with and for local focus; utilize existing evaluation instruments; utilize Extension FCS cost recovery strategies to recover costs of targeted educational programs. ED 2 In addition to ED 1 skills, utilize evidence based educational and engagement strategies with fidelity; work statewide with peers to build skills to support learning and capacity development; identify a professional area of specialization and develop as needed programs to meet local needs; generate creative works within area of specialization with multi-county reach; seek local grants and contracts to support and expand programming; utilize Extension FCS cost recovery strategies to recover costs of targeted educational programs. ED 3 Expand development of local and multi-county program opportunities; contribute to curricula revision and/or development; expand on professional growth in specialization through applied scholarship, generate creative works with statewide reach and evidence of peer review; seek external grants and contracts to support and expand programming; utilize Extension FCS cost recovery strategies to recover costs of targeted educational programs.
- ED 1 Develop/maintain local and county partnerships that will assist and enhance the growth of FCS program in the county; engage in county initiatives related to Family and Consumer Sciences; network and collaborate with local agencies. Assist in promoting federal community nutrition programs located in the county to enhance overall FCS impact. ED 2 Develop and maintain local, county/multi-county partnerships; actively engage in local partnerships/collaborations; actively participate in county/multi-county initiatives. Assist in promoting federal community nutrition programs located in the county to enhance overall FCS impact. ED 3 Actively lead local, county and /or multi-county initiatives; develop and maintain local, county/multi-county partnerships; actively engage in local partnerships/collaborations; actively participate in national efforts. Assist in promoting federal community nutrition programs located in the county to enhance overall FCS impact.
- ED 1 Participate in FCS statewide teams to be trained to implement major FCS curricula and initiatives; enhance professional development; work collaboratively with other Extension educators in all program areas where interdisciplinary efforts are needed to create greatest impact in a community. ED 2 Actively engage in FCS statewide teams to further develop in area of specialization and participate in efforts to revise curricula, develop creative works, etc.; work collaboratively with other Extension educators in all program areas where interdisciplinary efforts are needed to create greatest impact in a community. ED3 Engage in collaborative leadership in FCS statewide teams and participate Extension and college level initiatives; work collaboratively with other Extension educators in all program areas where interdisciplinary efforts are needed to create greatest impact.
Must be able to utilize a variety of teaching methods to deliver program content to diverse groups of learners. Knowledge and/or the ability to learn concepts, processes, ideas, and methods of Family and Consumer Sciences. Experience effectively assessing, replicating and teaching
research-based educational programs to diverse audiences. Experience in building and maintaining relationships with various groups of individuals, including peers, support staff, volunteers, and local committees, in an effort to achieve common programing goals.
QUALIFICATIONS: An earned Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at the time of hire is required. Preference will be given to
candidates with a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences or other educationally related area (examples are: Human/Development/Family Science, Community Nutrition, Family Financial Management, Public Health, Social Work/Counseling). Basic computer skills required.
