Deputy Director, University Human Resources

The University of Georgia (UGA) invites applications and nominations for the position of Deputy Director, Human Resources. Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice President and CHRO for Human Resources, the Deputy Director for Human Resources will provide oversight and management of Human Resources operations and have responsibility for the delivery of human resources business processes for the university. The Deputy Director will be responsible for working with human resources senior directors and their operations and lead the development, implementation, execution and assessment of initiatives that improve the quality and efficiency of university human resources business processes. The Deputy Director will also assist the Senior Associate Vice President for Human Resources with strategic planning for the division. In addition, the role will oversee and provide direct guidance to Learning and Development, and the Learning Management System administration.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Deputy Director for the division of Human Resources and a member of the division’s leadership team. The Deputy Director is the senior representative of SAVP/HR to senior university leadership as well as University System of Georgia leadership. (40%)

 

  • Participate in the development of the UGA HR strategic plan and manage and coordinate efforts to accomplish strategic goals and initiatives. Monitor performance against strategic goals. Conduct assessments, gather and interpret data, produce reports and provide solutions to successfully achieve objectives for the organization. Primary contact for communications for the department working with the Finance & Administration communications team. (20%)

 

  • Collaborate with institutional stakeholders and senior university management on issues and matters of significance related to objectives, programs and future initiatives. Serve as HR primary client relationship manager with institutional stakeholders to address concerns and issues with HR business processes. (20%)

 

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Learning and Development team in order to support the broader mission of the university. Set expectations for the team and monitor results. Oversee the administrative aspects of the Learning Management System through guidance with the Director and advisory groups for the platform. (20%)

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, HR, or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education required.  Master’s degree preferred.

 

Work Experience:

Seven years or more of experience of progressively responsible managerial experience in a Human Resources organization.  Experience working in a research university environment is strongly preferred.

 

Skills:

Demonstrated experience and knowledge of human resources practices and policies, and federal and state employment laws. Successful track record of working effectively with stakeholders within a complex organization. Excellent management skills and the ability to plan effectively and maximize results to meet both short and long-range goals and objectives.

 

Certifications:

SPHR or PHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
