Senior Education Specialist (Curriculum Developer) (R23-42)

The Professional Development Program (PDP) of the University at Albany’s Rockefeller College seeks a service-minded individual who is committed to performing high-quality work to fill a Senior Education Specialist (Curriculum Developer) position within PDP’s Public Service Workshops Program in Albany, NY.  This position features an added, one-time $1,500 sign-on bonus payable after successful completion of a six-month orientation period.

Description of Duties:

The Senior Education Specialist primarily works as an instructional designer and curriculum development specialist for the Public Service Workshops Program (PSWP), which provides professional development and training for New York State employees. This role also serves as a liaison to trainers and project sponsor personnel.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Designing and developing curricula for classroom courses and synchronous e-learning, including planning, researching, designing, and developing course content and materials.
  • Reviewing and monitoring curricula and materials.
  • Delivering classroom training on an occasional basis.
  • Interpreting and using training evaluation data to revise existing training curricula and materials.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet contract requirements.

This role is based in Albany, NY, with potential for a hybrid telework schedule after a probationary period.  Typical schedule is standard business hours Monday-Friday.  Travel within NYS to areas not served by public transportation may be required on rare occasions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by a USDOE, or an internationally recognized accrediting organization, in Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, Adult Education, English, Communications, Education, or related field, and a minimum of two years of experience in development of adult instructor-led training programs (in-person and/or virtual).
  2. Demonstrated ability to effectively write, critique, and develop instructional design and project work plans, training objectives, curricula, and educational materials (print and electronic).
  3. Excellent writing, speaking, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  4. Knowledge of adult training methods (including in-person, virtual, synchronous, and asynchronous modalities) and commitment to developing/delivering performance-based training that incorporates adult learning principles.
  5. Demonstrated ability to successfully work under pressure and attend to details, as well as effectively work on multiple projects with competing priorities/deadlines in shared staff resource setting.
  6. Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently, but also lead projects and encourage teamwork.
  7. Knowledge of NYS employees.
  8. Demonstrated proficiencies using Microsoft Office products, particularly Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Explorer, and document and presentation templates.
  9. Ability to travel throughout NYS on rare occasions to deliver training and attend meetings, including travel to areas that may not be served by public transportation.

Preferred QUALIFICATIONs:

  1. Master’s degree from a college or university accredited by a USDOE, or an internationally recognized accrediting organization, in Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, Adult Education, English, Communications, Education, or related field.
  2. Three or more years of experience in development of adult instructor-led training programs (in-person and/or virtual).
  3. Experience with delivery, coordination, and/or evaluation of adult training programs including in-person, virtual, synchronous, and/or asynchronous modalities.
  4. Experience with virtual meeting/training platforms or e-learning technology.
  5. Experience working within a state agency, on state-funded contract projects, or in a professional development organization.
  6. Experience in technical writing and instructional design.
  7. Knowledge and experience with project management and leadership skills, methods, and systems.

SPECIAL NOTES: Employment is with The Research Foundation for The State University of New York, a private, nonprofit, educational corporation that administers sponsored program activity for the University at Albany.  Salary is expected to be $60,000-$61,700 (annual).
