Job Description:
Description of Duties:
The Valm lab at University at Albany seeks a highly motivated Laboratory Manager Researcher. The Valm laboratory studies structure-function relationships in the human microbiome using NextGen sequencing and advanced imaging. The Lab Manager Researcher will be responsible for general lab management, including maintaining supplies and lab budgets, training lab personnel in safety and lab protocols and bacterial sample collection and preparation for sequencing including DNA extraction and PCR. Attention to detail, strong work ethic, and desire to see experimental projects through to completion are essential characteristics of this role. Previous experience in lab management and scientific experience with bacterial cell culture, molecular biology techniques and/or bioinformatics is preferred. This is a six-month position with possibility of being extended.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by a USDOE, or an internationally recognized accrediting organization in Biology or related field
  • 1-2 years research or lab manager experience
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher from a college or university accredited by a USDOE, or an internationally recognized accrediting organization in Microbiology or related field
  • 2-3 years experience research or lab manager experience
  • Publication record in molecular microbiology.

Additional Information:
Salary Range: $31,000 – $49,000
