Description of Duties:
The Scimemi lab at SUNY Albany is excited to announce the availability of part-time lab tech position. We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our innovative and stimulating research group. Our lab has expertise in cellular and circuit neuroscience, with an emphasis on synaptic function and non-neuronal cells. The project aims to uncover the mechanisms by which circadian rhythms shape synaptic function in the brain. The lab technician is expected to:

• Maintain lab records and mouse colony (includes breeding, culling and genotyping animals)
• Perform molecular biology experiments including but not limited to: PCR analysis, surgery, immuno-labeling, Western blot, perfusions, dissections, microscopy
• Work together and train undergraduate students in the lab
• Participate in lab meetings and planning sessions and read scientific literature

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, physics or related science from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Experience in one or more of the following techniques: cell culture, biochemistry , mouse intracranial surgery, and immunohistochemistry.
• Experience or willingness to work with mice, manage a mouse colony, and perform survival and non-survival procedures as necessary.
• Analytical skills to resolve problems that require basic scientific or technical principles.
• Candidates should be communicative with excellent interpersonal skills, attentive to detail, organized, and thoughtful about the protocols and techniques being used.
• Creativity, flexibility, and perseverance to troubleshoot and overcome inevitable experimental difficulties and changing experimental goals in light of new results.
• Be transparent in research practices and show utmost professionalism and integrity.
• Be in line with the culture of diversity and inclusion of the lab.

Preferred Qualifications:

• MS/PhD from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization are desirable but not required.
• Previous experience with imaging and/or electrophysiology.

Additional Information:
Salary: $20,000 – $25,000 DOE
