Small Farm Advisor - Fresno and Madera County

Small Farms Advisor

Salary: ($79,500) -($100,900)

Location Headquarters. Fresno, Fresno County, CA

Position Overview

The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) offers an exciting recruitment opportunity for a UC Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Small Farm Advisor.

Purpose

The Advisor will implement an innovative extension education and applied research program to support economic viability and sustainable production for small–scale farms in Fresno and Madera Counties

Qualifications

A minimum of a Master’s degree in plant science, crop science, agronomy, plant pathology, entomology, soil science, horticulture, weed science, plant physiology, agroecology, or a related discipline in the agricultural sciences, or in agricultural economics, is required at the time of appointment. The position will involve:

  • Conducting applied research to provide science-based solutions to address current and emerging issues faced by small-scale growers related to agricultural production, economics, and policy.
  • Providing extension education through variety of methods, including individual farm consultations, presentations at farmer-focused meetings, workshops, and field demonstrations.
  • Supporting small-scale specialty crop producers and diversified farms, including underserved farmers growing unique crops for niche markets with field consultations, problem solving, and on-farm research in soils, irrigation, crop nutrition, and integrated pest management.
  • Collaborating with other small farms advisors, outreach and technical assistance staff, UC SAREP academics and staff, and UC ANR advisors and specialists
  • Providing programmatic guidance and/or supervision to small farms staff conducting outreach, education, technical assistance, and research activities, including bilingual outreach and extension education in Hmong, Spanish, and other relevant languages.
