The Office of Research Compliance and Integrity (RCI) facilitates research, innovation and education for global excellence through outstanding oversight, resources and education for the integrity and compliance issues relating to the conduct of research. RCI has oversight and responsibility for Research Integrity and Misconduct, Conflict of Interest, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee Office, Export Control, Dual Use of Research Concern, Facilities Security and monitoring for Foreign Influences, Conflict of Commitment and Conflict of Interest, Good Clinical Practices training, Responsible Conduct of Research training and ClinicalTrials.gov administration as well as general research compliance monitoring and other related matters. RCI includes the core elements of an effective compliance program: high level oversight, written policies and procedures, training and education, reporting and communication, monitoring and auditing, corrective action and discipline/enforcement (based on established UC San Diego policies and procedures, State and Federal regulations and referrals to applicable institutional offices).

POSITION OVERVIEW
Join Our Team at the Office of Research Compliance and Integrity!
UC San Diego is currently seeking a highly qualified individual for the position of Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research Compliance and Integrity (AVC-RCI). As the university’s chief research compliance officer, you will play a crucial role in overseeing a wide range of activities related to research compliance and integrity at one of the top ten research universities in the US.
Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor for Research, you will serve as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert on research-related policy and regulatory matters. Your responsibilities will encompass various areas, including Conflict of Interest, Export Control, Research Misconduct, Animal Care and Use, Dual Use of Research Concern (DURC), facilities security, NIH Good Clinical Practices (GCP), ClinicalTrials.gov, Responsible Conduct of Research, and other relevant compliance areas.
In this role, you will shape the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidance to ensure adherence to federal, state, and university regulations pertaining to research compliance, integrity, and ethics. Your expertise will be crucial in providing advice and guidance to campus leaders, while fostering effective communication and collaboration across different offices and departments.
As the AVC-RCI, you will work closely with local and federal law enforcement agencies, as well as federal regulators such as ORI, NIH, DOE, FDA, and USDA. Your broad authority and responsibilities will involve facilitating integration and communication among various Vice Chancellors, Schools, and Departments, promoting a culture of compliance across the university.
Additionally, you will lead an experienced team with a national reputation as thought leaders in research compliance, ethics and integrity. You’ll oversee the day-to-day operations of the Office of Research Compliance and Integrity, including managing teams responsible for Conflict of Interest, Export Controls, Facilities Security, DURC, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, and Research Misconduct. This will involve hiring and training RCI staff, as well as providing ongoing supervision and guidance, to enable each team member to thrive and contribute to the overall success of the university.
