Job Description

MU TITLE: Office Support Assistant IV

LOCATION: 105 E Ash, Columbia MO

Health & Human Sciences Extension promotes optimal well-being of individuals, families and communities, with special recognition for the needs of vulnerable populations. HES Extension offers a variety of educational programs throughout the state, including the Family Nutrition Education Program for individuals and families.

This position is responsible to perform varied staff assistance at a paraprofessional level for faculty and staff in the Health & Human Sciences Extension at the MU Family Impact Center including administrative support, event coordinating, curriculum program support, and fiscal support.



Responsible for providing professional administrative program support including planning and organizing logistics for curriculum trainings, meetings, conferences, and educational events for statewide faculty and staff; gather, organize and summarize curriculum; ensure logistics are completed including speakers, volunteers, schedules, equipment, food, literature, correspondence, etc.; provide other support to faculty as necessary. Requires independent decision-making and follow-through to meet deadlines and support program goals.

Work in cooperation with fiscal team member to process vouchers, requisitions, and generate purchasing card statements. Compile, check for accuracy, and provide all program expenses to the HES Extension fiscal office for processing within five working days in accordance with UMC-SHP guidelines.

Provide other administrative office support as necessary including managing Mu Family Impact Center supplies, assisting with programmatic data collection and data quality, ordering supplies, answering phones, scheduling appointments, handling departmental mail, performing light cleaning and ensuring a smooth running academic department.

Conduct all activities in accordance with the Civil Rights Acts, Title IX, Rehabilitation, Americans with Disabilities Act and local, state and region affirmative action plans.

As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected in order to support the mission and purpose of MU Extension.



This position reports to the Director of the MU Family Impact Center.  Functional supervision may be exercised over a small to medium sized office support staff and student assistants.

Salary Range: $16.00 – $19.00 per hour

Grade: GGS-006

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Four years responsible office experience is necessary; related education or training beyond high school may be substituted for up to two years.

Supervisory experience may be necessary for some positions.

Experience with event planning and/or coordinating, as well as financial experience including maintaining and reconciling grants and contracts helpful.

Analytical skills, detail oriented, proactive thinker, ability to multi-task and demonstrated organizational skills.  Proficient computer skills.

Professional and friendly demeanor with a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals.
