MU TITLE: Strategic Communications Consultant
LOCATION: 212 Whitten Hall, Columbia MO
This position will support communications needs for projects and initiatives at the Extension Center for Applied Research and Engagement Systems (CARES) at the University of Missouri. The candidate will be expected to strategize integrated communications campaigns that leverage a mix of marketing and communications tools (social media, visual media, audio, flyers, posts, PowerPoint decks, newsletters, etc.) to achieve CARES strategic goals. This full-time position will join an experienced team situated in an accommodating and energetic work environment to engage in activities that grow the brand recognition of CARES, in alignment with the University of Missouri.The position will work independently but will collaborate with other CARES staff to prepare and deliver communications in a dynamic, multi-project environment. This position will coordinate with Extension Integrated Marketing Communications staff and leadership to ensure alignment across projects and initiatives.

This position is located in Columbia, MO with the possibility of a remote work option when projects do not require in-person presence and incumbent is meeting daily deliverables and quarterly goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Prepare and publish communication documents for CARES projects and initiatives, including topic-based, instructive and marketing communications.
Support and monitor and social media communications for CARES projects and initiatives.
Collaborate with CARES staff on website messaging, training material content development, and general communications needs.
Coordinate with CARES leadership on strategic communications for CARES.
Coordinate with Extension communications staff on broader University communications topics.
Coordinate with project sponsors on website design and communication strategies as part of project tasks and goals.
Conduct all activities in accordance with the Civil Rights Acts, Title IX, Rehabilitation, Americans with Disabilities Act and local, state and region affirmative action plans.
As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected to support the mission and purpose of MU Extension.

Salary Range: $50,367.29 – $62,000.00

A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Excellent communication skills, experience with WordPress, knowledge of data, mapping, and community assessment processes.
Demonstrated knowledge and creativity in both print and online environments.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite – InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator – as well as MS Office software and collaboration tools.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to develop new approaches/solutions to complex communication challenges while meeting tight deadlines.
Ability to thrive and multi-task in a fast-paced and changing environment and ability to collaborate with other faculty and staff to achieve organizational objectives.
Detail oriented and self-motivated with the right balance of creativity, technical ability, and effective communication skills.
