Position Overview

The University of Missouri Extension is accepting applications for the position of 4-H Leadership & Civic Engagement Extension Educator.  4-H is a youth development organization that centers around three mandate areas of STEM, Healthy Living, and Civic Engagement.  Missouri 4-H currently reaches and audience of approximately 50,000 youth with the aid of over 10,000 adult volunteers.  The area of 4-H Leadership & Civic Engagement programming encompasses a wide range contests and events in the topics of Leadership and Civic Engagement (Leadership and Civic Engagement).  This full-time position will be responsible for the planning and facilitation of state level hands-on 4-H events and programs, such as state 4-H State Congress, Teen Conference, State Council, State Ambassadors, Show Me Wares, Wester National Round up, Film Festival, Public Speaking, Fashion Review among other educational programs , and will support new content area programming.

This is a 12-month unranked academic position, which is eligible for renewal annually depending on continued programmatic need and individual performance.

This position will have a working title of State 4-H Leadership & Civic Engagement Educator and a MU title of Extension Instructor.

As an Extension Instructor, your workload distribution at appointment will be 90% Extension Teaching and 10% Traditional Service.

This appointment is renewable annually at the discretion of the University and workload distribution may change at the discretion of Extension leadership.  Circumstances affecting continued employment include, but are not limited to, work performance, fund availability, and educational priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and facilitate existing state 4-H Leadership & Civic Engagement contests, competitions, and events
  • Assist state 4-H faculty with the 4-H State Council and 4-H Ambassador program
  • Assist state 4-H faculty in the creation of new state 4-H Leadership & Civic Engagement based contests, competitions, and events
  • Assist state 4-H faculty in the development and implementation of new and existing programming in 4-H Leadership & Civic Engagement
  • Aid in the review and development of content area focused project curriculum and resources
  • Promote regional and state 4-H Leadership & Civic Engagement areas
  • Develop, promote, and implement 4-H Leadership & Civic Engagement Delivery modes including but not limited to SPIN Clubs, Afterschool programs, etc.
  • Develop, promote, and implement the 4-H culture of Leadership & Civic Engagement at statewide initiatives and events.
  • Introduce and promote 4-H Leadership & Civic Engagement programs with diverse audiences
  • Supervise student workers to support program events and activities
  • Other duties as assigned

LEADERSHIP RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Position will directly report to the Director of the 4-H Center for Youth Development, and the Civic Engagement Faculty members will be the secondary supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Leadership, Youth Development, or another related field at time of appointment.

Candidates must demonstrate they are authorized to work in the United States. Sponsorship of U.S. temporary employment visas will not be offered for this position.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

  • Years of experience organizing and facilitating judging contests.
  • Highest degree earned in education, Leadership, Youth Development, or other related field.
  • Strong background in 4-H.
  • Familiarity with new 4-H delivery modes (i.e. Afterschool, SPIN Clubs).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to teach, manage, and engage an audience (youth and adult).
  • Strong organizational, time, and project management skills.
  • Ability to successfully create and manage budgets for events.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to work in both office and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 35lbs.
  • Additional background check will be required as position works closely with minors

SALARY

Minimum starting salary of $45,000.00, salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience of the applicant.
