JOB TITLE:

Associate Dean/Director – University of Wyoming Extension

JOB PURPOSE:

The University of Wyoming (UW) seeks nominations and applications for the position of Associate Dean & Director of University of Wyoming Extension (UWE) in the College of Agriculture, Life Sciences and Natural Resources (CALSNR). We are seeking a forward-thinking leader deeply committed to community-based education and engagement, aiming to empower the people of Wyoming in making choices that elevate their quality of life.

This is a full-time, 12-month, administrative appointment which may be eligible for tenure or a rolling contract, depending on experience and qualifications. The position is headquartered on the campus of the University of Wyoming which is located in Laramie. UW Extension has faculty and facilities in all 23 counties and on the Wind River Indian Reservation.

The Associate Dean and Director of UWE serves as the chief administrative officer for UWE, providing strategic direction, organizational leadership, and statewide coordination of educational programs in 4-H Youth Development (4-H), Community Vitality and Health (CVH), and Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR). This position also leads personnel associated with UWE State Office, including the UWE Executive Team comprised of a Senior Associate Director (4-H and CVH leadership), and an Associate Director (ANR leadership). The Associate Dean and Director of UWE also plays a key role in the daily functions of the college as a member of the CALSNR leadership team. This position reports directly to the CALSNR Dean and ensures that UW Extension remains an integral function and resource for the College and University.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide visionary leadership to advance the statewide engagement and impacts of UW Extension.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate extension programs that address the needs of Wyoming stakeholders, ensuring relevance, evidence-based approaches, and responsiveness to contemporary issues.
  • Encourage collaboration, innovation, and excellence in educational outcomes.
  • Build partnerships with stakeholder groups, external organizations, agencies, and industry leaders to enhance program effectiveness, ensure relevancy, and expand support.
  • Advocate and represent UW Extension at various levels, engaging with diverse stakeholders.
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain a diverse workforce while fostering an inclusive work environment.
  • Work with Extension faculty and staff to develop and communicate program goals and impacts to both internal and external audiences.
  • Ensure fiscal accountability and programmatic responsiveness to community and funding partners, coordinating reporting for funding sources.
  • Engage with various stakeholder groups, University faculty, Extension personnel, partnering organizations, and volunteers to ensure positive relationships and impactful Extension programs.
  • Actively engage in revenue generation initiatives to ensure the sustainable growth and expansion of UW Extension programs, including developing relationships with foundations, donors, and other funding partners.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctorate degree in an extension-related field (e.g., agriculture-related, extension education, community development, human development and family sciences, natural resources, education administration).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience supervising and evaluating extension and/or academic personnel and teams.
  • Experience in strategic planning, complex budget management, and implementing effective extension programs.
  • Valid driver’s license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated understanding of county, state, regional, and national extension programs and practices, preferably in agriculture, family science, youth education, natural resources education, and community/economic development.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the essential linkages of extension with research and teaching missions and the ability to create and expand these partnerships, including collaboration with the Agriculture Experiment Station (AES) and UW’s four Research and Extension Centers.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse populations and teams, showcasing a strong commitment to nurturing a workplace culture that upholds diversity and equity as core values.
  • Experience managing faculty and staff in Extension.
