About this Role:

The purpose of this Veterinary Assistant position is to provide assistance to VHC veterinarians and Registered Veterinary Technicians in the performance of their duties to improve the client service experience. This position will provide patient care support, and serve as an assistant and electronic medical record specialist in the Large Animal Hospital.

Duties / Responsibilities:

Assist VHC Veterinarians and Registered Veterinary Technicians:

• Serve as an assistant of the specialty service both in hospital and field calls as deemed necessary

• Serve as a client liaison with the service

• Provide patient care and assist with treatments

• Restraint of animals

• Feed, exercise and bathe patients

• Collection of urine and fecal samples

• Monitor, record and report physical signs of hospitalized patients

• Assist with compliance of all biohazard and infection control protocols

• Examples

• Clean stalls and runs, provide clean bedding, and water

• Wash and sanitize buckets, stomach tubes and pumps

• Disinfect and clean isolation areas according to protocol

• Restock and reorder supplies

Medical Records Assistant:

• Assist with patient record keeping and compliance by:

• Entering charges into the medical records system as deemed necessary and/or patient field service tic sheet

• Gather patient history, verify patient/client information is current and up to date with electronic medical record system

• Initiate measures to increase efficiency and operation of the equine services section as it relates to technical training and patient care

• As necessary, assist with coordination of emergency care, vacation period coverage and unexpected teaching demands with fellow staff

Perform other duties as deemed necessary by supervisor, section head, hospital administrator or hospital director

Required Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma

• One year of relevant experience (Relevant education or experience may be substituted)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Two or more years of experience as a veterinary assistant providing patient care

• Ability to work with and provide preventative maintenance for ordinary veterinary medical hospital equipment

• Ability to handle, restrain, and provide medical treatments to domestic animals

• Willingness to master new techniques

• Demonstrated experience, knowledge and comfort with Word and Excel software

• Ability to provide software instruction to a variety of audiences

$ 12.22 - $ 18.31 per hour
