The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities’ (APLU) Board on Human Sciences (BoHS) recently honored three faculty members and a national public servant with its 2014 Board on Human Sciences Awards. The annual honors, which are presented to nationally-recognized leaders working to advance human sciences in higher education, took place earlier this month during the 127th APLU Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida.

The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities’ (APLU) Experiment Station Section (ESS) recently named Carolyn Brooks, Colin Kaltenbach, Arlen Leholm, Bruce McPheron and Craig Nessler recipients of the inaugural 2014 Experiment Station Section Excellence in Leadership Awards. Each of them were honored with a plaque during a special awards program held during the 127th APLU Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida earlier this month.

Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson today released the following statement regarding the introduction of the revised Senate majority proposal to reauthorize the Higher Education Act (HEA). Senate HELP Committee Chairman Tom Harkin (D-IA) authored the bill.

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is the 2014 recipient of the C. Peter Magrath University Community Engagement Award. Presented by the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities, the university received a sculpture and a $20,000 prize during a special awards ceremony at the 127th APLU Annual Meeting underway in Orlando, Florida.

The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today named the University of Houston, University of Massachusetts Boston, Georgia Institute of Technology and North Carolina State University recipients of its second annual Innovation & Economic Prosperity (IEP) University Awards. The recognitions, which honor public universities actively engaged in and promoting regional economic development, were given during a special awards ceremony on the final day of the 127th APLU Annual Meeting underway in Orlando, Florida.

APLU's Council of 1890 Universities today named the 2014 recipients of the 1890 Teaching, Research and Innovation Awards. Now in its second year, the annual honor highlights exemplary achievements at 1890 land-grant institutions by recognizing advances in teaching, research and innovation on 1890 university campuses and encourages further advancement and development in areas of critical importance. The awards were presented during a special reception at the 127th APLU Annual Meeting underway in Orlando, Florida.

APLU has created a Task Force on Tenure, Promotion, and Technology Transfer (TPTT) that will focus on the appropriate consideration of technology transfer in faculty personnel decisions. (Note that the Task Force will work in parallel with the recently announced APLU Task Force on Managing University Intellectual Property.) After conducting a survey of current practices among APLU members, the TPTT Task Force will make recommendations to APLU and its membership on appropriate criteria and the assessment of technology transfer work as part of faculty advancement reviews.
