Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson today released the following statement regarding the 2015 Gallup-Purdue Index. The new report released today found that 77 percent of college alumni nationally agree or strongly agree that their college education was worth the cost. At public universities the percentage was even higher, with 80 percent of respondents agreeing or strongly agreeing that their college degree was worth the investment. Just 8 percent of public university alumni surveyed said they disagreed or strongly disagreed that their degree was worth the cost.

Washington, DC -- Dr. Chase A. Crawford has been named Director of the Antibiotic Resistance Initiative in a professional staff position jointly funded by the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU). Crawford will provide administrative leadership for the development of a series of research and educational programs that the APLU/AAVMC Task Force on Antibiotic Resistance in Production Agriculture will recommend in its much-anticipated report slated for release in two weeks.

Washington, DC — The United States Senate passed a resolution this week designating August 30, 2015 as “1890 Land-Grant Institutions Quasquicentennial Recognition Day.” The resolution, which Senator John Boozman (R-AK) and Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) led, recognizes the legacy of the Morrill Act of 1890, which helped establish public universities accessible to African Americans in states that had previously excluded them. The resolution notes the contributions 1890 Universities have made in developing agricultural leaders and urges the Department of Agriculture to “remain committed to supporting the goals of the Second Morrill Act.”
