Washington, DC – As part of its ongoing effort to promote access, student success and degree completion, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) hosted and convened the 2016 HBCU Summit in Atlanta, Georgia on June 15 - 17. The theme for this year's meeting was I3 Matters: (De) coding Student Success using Non-cognitive Factors in Institutional, Inter-relational, and Individual Affairs. APLU’s Office for Access & Success and the APLU Council of 1890 Universities led the planning of the meeting.

The senators also introduced an amendment, which contained specific funding levels.

Washington, DC – One year after issuing "Innovation: An American Imperative" – a call for Congress and the president to enact critical measures to maintain America's global leadership in science, technology, engineering, and innovation – a coalition of businesses, scientific organizations, and universities, now numbering more than 500, issued a progress report showing some important steps forward, but much work remaining to be done. APLU is one of the organizers of the initiative.

Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson today released the following statement urging the adoption of a risk-based approach to accreditation in order to ensure the time and resources of accreditors are better focused on schools with the greatest need for increased oversight. The U.S. Department of Education last year told accreditors they were permitted to use a risk-based approach. McPherson’s remarks come on the same day that Under Secretary Ted Mitchell spoke before the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI) on the need to ensure that college accreditors are "focused on the right things."

Washington, D.C.— In recognition of their extraordinary community outreach initiatives, four members of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) have been selected as regional recipients of the 2016 W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Scholarship Award. As regional winners, East Carolina University, Pennsylvania State University, Portland State University, and Purdue University will represent and compete for the national C. Peter Magrath Community Engagement Scholarship Award, which will be announced during the APLU Annual Meeting November 13-15 in Austin, Texas.
