Washington, D.C.— As part of its ongoing efforts to increase degree completion, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today announced California State University, Fresno; Cleveland State University; Montana State University; the University of California, Riverside; and Wayne State University as finalists for its 2016 Project Degree Completion Award. The annual prize works to identify, recognize, and reward institutions that employ innovative approaches to improve retention and degree completion.

Washington, D.C.— The Campus Safety, Health, and Environmental Association (CSHEMA) named Dr. Taylor Eighmy and Dr. Mark McLellan as recipients of its 2016 Campus Leaders Who Care Award in recognition of their work to enhance laboratory and research safety at universities across the country. The Campus Leaders Award, which recognizes senior university leaders who advance health and safety issues on campus, were presented yesterday at the 63rd Campus Safety, Health, and Environmental Association Annual Conference held in Austin, Texas.

Washington, DC – The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today announced Dr. Judy Genshaft, President and CEO of the University of South Florida System, as the 2016 recipient of the Michael P. Malone International Leadership Award for her work championing comprehensive internationalization efforts in higher education. The Malone Award, a national honor presented by APLU and awarded annually, recognizes individuals who further international education at public universities.

Washington, DC – As public research universities seek to promote completion while containing costs, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today announced that seven of its member institutions have been selected as participants in a three-year project that seeks to personalize learning and improve undergraduate education through adoption of high-quality adaptive courseware. APLU’s Personalized Learning Consortium (PLC) is overseeing the grants, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, to the cohort of seven public institutions.

Washington, DC -- Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson, who previously served as Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development, today released the following statement regarding House passage of the Global Food Security Act of 2016, which was previously approved in the Senate. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and Johnny Isakson (R-GA) introduced the bipartisan measure in the Senate and Representatives Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Betty McCollum (D-MN) introduced the measure in the House. The bill now moves to the White House for President Obama’s signature.
