APLU Hails DHS Rescinding Policies on International Students

Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson today released the following statement regarding the administration rescinding new Department of Homeland Security guidance impacting international students and remote learning.

“The administration’s decision to rescind its guidance impacting international students is a major victory – not just for students who would have been affected, but for the entire country. This decision is a testament to the power of students, universities, and others speaking out and pursuing legal remedies to push back on misguided and unfair policies.

“APLU continues to examine the rescission as we seek additional clarity, for example, on how this affects new students who are planning to come to the United States. We will need to draw on the collective strength of those who spoke out against this guidance if the administration considers other policies impacting international students. The U.S. must continue to make clear that it welcomes international students and recognizes the enormous contributions they make to university communities and the country at large.”
