San Diego – In recognition of extraordinary community partnership, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today named Cornell University the winner of the 2019 C. Peter Magrath Community Engagement Scholarship Award during a ceremony at the group’s annual meeting, now underway in San Diego.

San Diego – The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today honored four public university faculty with national teaching awards recognizing excellence in agricultural sciences teaching and student engagement. Dennis Decoteau of Pennsylvania State University and Michelle Schroeder-Moreno of North Carolina State University were named recipients of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Excellence in College and University Teaching Awards for Food and Agricultural Sciences. Elizabeth Karcher of Purdue University and John Tummons of the University of Missouri were named recipients of National Teaching and Student Engagement awards. The awards, which celebrate university faculty for their use of innovative teaching methods and service to students, were presented at the 132nd APLU Annual Meeting now underway in San Diego.

San Diego, CA – The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today named the University of North Carolina at Charlotte the winner of its 2019 Degree Completion Award during a ceremony at its annual meeting, now underway in San Diego, California. The annual award works to identify, recognize, and reward institutions that employ innovative and evidence-based approaches to improve degree completion while ensuring educational quality.

Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson today sent the following letter and policy analysis to House Education and Labor Committee Chairman Bobby Scott in which he notes APLU’s support for key parts of the College Affordability Act while expressing serious concerns for other parts of the bill.

Washington, DC – The National Science Foundation-funded INCLUDES Alliance, Aspire: The National Alliance for Inclusive & Diverse STEM Faculty, today announced the selection of 20 public research universities for its three-year institutional change effort to help the institutions develop inclusive faculty recruitment, hiring, and retention practices. The new cohort joins an inaugural set of 15 institutions that began working together to advance such work earlier this year.
