APLU Annual Meeting Session Highlights

APLU is excited to welcome senior public university leaders to New Orleans, November 11-13, for the 2018 APLU Annual Meeting. Learn more about some of the recently announced sessions below.
 

Turning Challenges in to Opportunities
University of Wisconsin-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank will deliver an address examining how public universities need to adapt to better meet the needs of changing student populations as institutions aim to increase college access, equity, and completion.

Following Chancellor Blank’s remarks, a distinguished panel will examine concrete strategies on how to expand access to higher education and eliminate achievement gaps facing low-income, first-generation, and minority students. Wayne State University President Roy Wilson will moderate as panelists Montana State University President Waded Cruzado and Patrick Methvin, Director of Postsecondary Success at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation offer insights.

Where We Stand: One Week After the Midterm Elections
Join us for a frank discussion about the results of the midterm elections that will occur just a week before the Annual Meeting and what they mean for the country. Speakers include Astead W. Herndon, National Politics Reporter for The New York Times, and Stephanie Grace, Columnist for The Advocate New Orleans.

Justin Smith Morrill Lecture: A Millennial’s Perspective on the Land Grant System and its Role in Global Resilience
Haley Oliver
, associate professor of food science in Purdue University’s College of Agriculture will deliver the 2018 Justin Smith Morrill Lecture. Her address will provide a Millennial’s perspective on the land-grant system and its role in shaping global residence.

Professor Oliver’s work centers on food safety issues, including the persistence, prevalence, and transmission of foodborne pathogens in retail food system.
