APLU’s Online Course on Implementing Campus-wide Advising Reforms Honored with Effective Practice Award

APLU’s online course on implementing campus-wide advising reforms was recognized yesterday with a 2018 Effective Practice Award from the Online Learning Consortium (OLC). The APLU course, A SMART Approach to Student Success: Strategic Management of Advising Reform and Technology, was launched last spring with the aim of helping institutions successfully adopt holistic, campus-wide proactive advising systems that have shown significant progress in advancing student success.

The OLC – a collaborative community of higher education leaders and innovators – presents the awards to recognize effective techniques, strategies, and practices that are shared by members of the OLC community to advance quality and access to digital learning programs.

The self-paced, online course is designed to provide guidance to executive and project-level leadership on redesigning and improving the delivery of advising and student support services. Incorporating the use of technology, the course was designed to facilitate access to, and sharing of, effective practices across institutions through in-depth video interviews with presidents, provosts, leaders in academic and student affairs, deans, advising managers, faculty and students from five exemplary institutions. To date, 77 institutions have enrolled in the course both as teams and individual learners.
