Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson today released the following statement on the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg.
“We share the national mourning of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She leaves a remarkable legacy not just on the high court, but in the annals of American history. She fought to address discrimination against women and others head-on. Her tenacious work ethic, intellectual force, and extraordinary grace helped advance a more just and equal society – and inspired a generation of contemporaries who now stand ready to take up the fight.
“Her impact on education is particularly profound. She recognized that education opens doors of opportunity and fought tirelessly to tear down barriers standing in the way of equal opportunity. Public universities honor her legacy by advancing equality and justice – the very values she committed her life to defending and advancing.”
