- The first project launched by the PLC in 2015 sought to educate faculty about recent innovations in adaptive learning technologies and to support cross-institution faculty collaboration in the development of adaptive learning modules for use in English composition instruction. We partnered with faculty from with Georgia State University, Montclair State University, the University of Georgia, and the University of Mississippi to build an introductory-level English Composition course using the Smart AuthorTM platform from Acrobatiq. - In 2018, the PLC produced a guide for implementation of adaptive courseware based on the lessons learned by institutions participating in the AAAC grant program. This resource, A Guide for Implementing Adaptive Courseware: From Planning Through Scaling, is offered on the Every Learner Everywhere website and includes links to worksheets, planning documents, and other partner resources to help institutions at any phase of their adaptive courseware implementation. It will be updated periodically to reflect new learning and respond to the needs of institutions working to implement adaptive learning to improve student success.
- In 2019, in partnership with Every Learner Everywhere, the PLC developed a set of resources to help institutions evaluate the return on investment (ROI) from their digital learning implementations. These resources are based on Arizona State University’s Making Digital Learning Work report, and are available on the Every Learner Everywhere website.
Integrated Planning and Student Success
- To help college and university leaders implement new systems for redesigning advising and supporting students across their campuses, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) developed an online course entitled, A SMART Approach to Student Success: Strategic Management of Advising Reform and Technology, with the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2017.
The course featured in-depth video interviews with presidents, provosts, vice provosts for student success, vice presidents of information technology, advising personnel, and faculty from five institutions that have pioneered the implementation of integrated advising and student support systems. Drawing on their experiences, the six lesson, self-paced course, offered critical guidance to leaders in academic and student affairs in transforming advising systems to better serve today’s students. The course is not offered currently, however, resources from the course may be made available through NASPA in the future.
