Policy & Advocacy

APLU advocates for strong investments in defense research and development (R&D) programs funded through the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). These investments are necessary to spur innovations that safeguard our military personnel and help the U.S. maintain international military leadership. Tomorrow’s military capabilities depend on the R&D investments we make today. Through partnerships with the research community, DOD research is securing our nation’s future military capabilities in areas such as quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and advanced autonomous systems.

APLU’s FY2021 Defense Appropriations Advocacy Document provides additional context regarding our key priorities for defense-related research, as well as justifications to support our funding request levelsAdditional supporting information is included in APLU’s letter to House and Senate leadership on reconciling difference between the two chambers' FY2021 bills.
