Seek the IEP Designation

Institutions commence their IEP process once an in annual cohort beginning in December. Both APLU and non-APLU member institutions are encouraged to pursue the IEP University designation. There is no cost associated with participation for members. Non-members may participate by paying a participation fee through APLU's partner, the University Economic Development Association (UEDA). Once enrolled in the program, non-members and members experience the same IEP process. 

Process for APLU members (See APLU membership list):

  1. Review the IEP impact page and IEP Universities program details described in the IEP designation guidelines 
  2. Contact Shalin Jyotishi to set up a call to discuss questions and your institution’s objectives for participation, and to obtain the letter of intent template 
  3. Identify two administrators to serve as IEP Campus Contacts who will co-lead your IEP campus team
  4. Presidents and chancellors submit letter of intent to APLU President Peter McPherson by October 31
  5. Recommended: Attend IEP-related sessions at APLU Annual Meeting 
  6. Recommended: Plan to attend the following year's CECE Summer Meeting where the annual IEP Universities Workshop takes place
  7. Cohort formally launches in December

Pursue the IEP designation as a non-APLU member:

  1. Review the the IEP impact page and IEP Universities program details described in the IEP designation guidelines
  2. Contact Shalin Jyotishi to set up a call to discuss questions and your institution’s objectives for participation, and to obtain the letter of intent template 
  3. Discuss participation fee process with UEDA's Tim Hindes
  4. Identify two administrators to serve as IEP Campus Contacts who will co-lead your IEP campus team
  5. Presidents and chancellors submit letter of intent to UEDA President and Executive Director by October 31
  6. Recommended: Attend IEP-related sessions at APLU Annual Meeting 
  7. Recommended: Plan to attend the following year's CECE Summer Meeting where the annual IEP Universities Workshop takes place (member rate provided)
  8. Cohort formally launches in December
