Our Work

Federal Budget & Appropriations

APLU advocates to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), engages with Members of Congress, and works with member institutions to submit appropriations requests of importance to public research universities.

APLU’s FY2024 Appropriations Priorities Summary Chart provides an overview of our annual requests, as well as current funding levels, and congressional action. A chart detailing House and Senate action for FY2024 can be found here and an analysis of the FY2024 Agriculture, Commerce-Justice-Science, Energy-Water, and Interior-Environment bills here. APLU staff also conducted an analysis of the Defense, Labor-Health and Human Services-Education, and State and Foreign Operations bills. Final APLU priority FY2020-2024 appropriations allocations can be found here.

APLU’s analysis of the FY2025 President’s Budget Request can be found here and information on request levels for APLU’s priority accounts here.

Additional information and analysis are available for the President’s Budget Request and the seven appropriations bills for which APLU tracks and actively engages on the pages below.

Each year when the President’s Budget Request is sent to Congress, APLU analyzes the White House’s key funding priorities and policy changes.
