Last week, members of the APLU’s Council on Research Executive Committee visited Capitol Hill to meet with staff on key congressional committees with jurisdiction over policies affecting public research universities and their work. The Council of Research (CoR) is comprised of senior administrators with responsibility for research policy and administration such as vice presidents for research.
CoR members also met with an array of national news outlets as well as science and higher education publications to discuss how federally funded research undertaken at public universities is critically important to enhancing quality of life, extending lifespans, and driving long-term economic growth and broadly shared prosperity. CoR members stressed the importance of federally funded research to achieving the robust job creation and rapid economic growth that the Trump administration seeks to achieve.
