Nominations for National Science and Technology Medals Due April 7

The National Medal of Science is the nation’s highest honor for scientists and engineers, and is presented annually by the president of the United States. It was established honor individuals “deserving special recognition by reason of their outstanding contributions to knowledge in the physical, biological, mathematical, or engineering sciences.” In 1980, Congress expanded this recognition to include the social and behavioral sciences. Nominations for the National Medal of Science require three letters of recommendation. Nominate someone for the National Medal of Science via the National Science Foundation’s online nomination platform.

The National Medal of Technology and Innovation is the nation’s highest honor for technological achievement, bestowed on America’s leading innovators by the president of the United States. The medal is awarded annually to individuals, teams (up to four individuals), companies or divisions of companies for their outstanding contributions to America’s economic, environmental and social well-being. The purpose of the National Medal of Technology and Innovation is to recognize those who have made lasting contributions to America’s competitiveness, standard of living, and quality of life through technological innovation, and to recognize those who have made substantial contributions to strengthening the nation’s technological workforce. Nominations for the National Medal of Technology and Innovation require six letters of recommendation. Nominate someone for the award via the award’s online nomination platform.
