APLU Holds Capitol Hill Reception for Challenge of Change Report

Last night, APLU held a Capitol Hill reception showcasing its Challenge of Change report – which mapped out comprehensive actions public research universities can make to help meet global food needs by 2050. The report also underscored the importance of federal leadership in achieving global food and nutrition security.

The reception was hosted by the office of Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE). Congressman David Price (D-NC) offered remarks, as did APLU President Peter McPherson. North Carolina State University Chancellor Randy Woodson, chair of the Challenge of Change Commission, also offered remarks, indicating the event was a first step in a continuous rollout with congressional offices and member campuses over the next several months. Some 100 guests from congressional offices, APLU institutions, and science societies attended the reception.

The event built upon last month’s launch of the report in Washington, D.C., which featured remarks by former U.S. Senator Richard Lugar, former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman, and World Food Prize Gebisa Ejeta, among others.
