APLU’s CICEP Celebrates 10th Anniversary at Summer Meeting

APLU’s Commission on Innovation Competiveness, and Economic Prosperity (CICEP) marked its 10^th anniversary with a celebration at its summer meeting June 25-28 in San Diego, hosted by CICEP Chair and University of California San Diego Chancellor Pradeep Kholsa. To commemorate the anniversary, CICEP produced a 10th Anniversary video and a commemorative book tracing the commission’s history, and looking toward the future. Highlights of the Commission’s achievements over the last decade include the development of the CICEP Economic Engagement Framework and the Innovation and Economic Prosperity Universities program, including a library of over 150 case studies of university economic engagement.

In addition to the anniversary celebration, CICEP members explored at the San Diego meeting issues related to how institutions tell the story of their economic engagement impacts. The meeting also featured sessions on strengthening city-university partnerships, responding to shifting community needs, addressing the skills gap, the evolution of tech transfer, measuring and telling economic engagement stories, increasing participation of women and underrepresented minorities in entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as how public universities can tackle American’s economic challenges, among others. A highlight of the meeting was a reception and 10^th anniversary celebration at the UCSD Chancellor’s residence, the Audrey Geisel University House.
