APLU and The Fund for American Studies organized and cohosted a June 28 forum on Capitol Hill exploring the wide array of free speech issues facing public universities. C-SPAN covered the event, which you can watch here.
The event was thought provoking and covered many of the issues public universities are facing daily. Howard Gillman, Chancellor of the University of California, Irvine, participated in the panel and made a strong case on behalf of all public universities and their deep commitment to protecting free speech. Pulitzer Prize winning columnist Clarence Page moderated the panel, which also included: Richard Cohen, President of the Southern Poverty Law Center; Stephen Hayes, Editor-in-Chief of the Weekly Standard, and Alejandrina Guzman, 2017-18 Student Government President at the University of Texas at Austin.
