APLU and the Swedish Embassy Host University Summit on Innovation and Talent Development

APLU partnered with the Embassy of Sweden to host a presidential summit today on higher education and scientific research as drivers of change. The event focused on how research can fuel economic growth and societal impact and examined the role of lifelong learning in maintaining a competitive economy.

Marcia McNutt, President of the National Academy of Sciences, APLU President Peter McPherson (pictured speaking at right), and Swedish Ambassador Karin Olofsdotter gave remarks at the event, which took place at the Swedish Embassy.

The program also featured several senior leaders from APLU member institutions, including: Virginia Tech President Timothy Sands; University of Missouri, Columbia Chancellor Alexander N. Cartwright; University of Delaware President Dennis Assanis; and Linda Rugg, Associate Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of California, Berkeley. The event featured several university presidents from Swedish institutions such as Lund University, Stockholm University, and University of Gothenberg.
