Image of AllieWhat was your first real job? This is my first real job! I joined APLU right after graduation and have been here ever since. I’m thankful for the experience I’ve gained in this first year and am looking forward to seeing what the future holds.

Why did you want to work at APLU? I think what really drew me into higher ed communications is being able to share the stories of the great things our schools are doing to change the world. You’re able to see and share how a degree is changing the lives of not only students, but also their communities. I love being able to help tell and share those stories.

What are you most proud of during your time at APLU? So far, I feel like I am most proud of creating the logo for Powered by Publics. It was a huge collaborative effort, and it was so rewarding to have a logo that people were so excited about. We also launched the initiative at the APLU Annual Meeting and seeing a logo that I designed projected in front of 1,500 people was an experience like no other.

What is your favorite thing to do on your day off? I love walking around Georgetown and going from bakery to bakery. I’m in search of the best chocolate chip cookies in DC so if you have any suggestions, let me know!

Where is the best place you’ve traveled and why does it stand out? I went to Scotland when I studied abroad, and it really is magical. Not only are the people so nice, but the history and scenery are incredible! It really is as pretty as it is in the movies.

What was your dream job as a child? I’m a huge animal lover and always wanted to be a vet when I was younger. I learned the hard way during a junior high biology class that I pass out at the sight of blood. Unfortunately, that dream was short-lived, but I still try to volunteer at animal shelters when I can.
